From the diet side of things I was eating sensibly and a wide variety of healthy foods making certain to control my portions. I also knew the dangers of triggering your metabolism into famine mode so I was eating 4 times a day up until 10 pm…but often I only ate 3 meals. I’m a night owl and typically active till midnight.
So, here’s what worked. I added another meal and decreased my calories by 250. If you want to burn fat you need eat more food more often. Sounds counter intuitive but skipping meals just sets you up for storing fat.
My father is an extremely disciplined man. He has managed to keep his weight at around 123 +/- 2 pounds for as long as I can remember. He does it by eating twice sometimes once a day. Even though he is thin he lacks lean muscle mass. If I could get him on my Tanita fat monitoring scale he would probably exceed the acceptable fat percentage for men (25% body fat).
If he were to ever start eating an extra 300 calories a day he would bloon up. He gets away with it because he doesn’t deviate from his eating. I however, like most normal people enjoy eating and don’t want to over restrict my calories.
You should never deprive your body more than about 400-500 calories a day depending upon your weight. Doing so allows you to burn a pound of fat (3,500 calories) in about 1 week. My target was about 1/2 pound a week.
Anyway, it didn’t surprise doing that by adding the above I started to naturally lose belly fat. A lot of people think they need a pill or some other supplement to kick start fat burning when in reality your own body is quiet efficient. You can lose fat naturally by making a few shifts here and there.
